Black belt class – new kata and some ground work

Tonight Shihan started teaching us Kanku-Sho and we had a chance to work on our next stipes. We worked on “under duress” which is when a person goes to take you to the ground. I worked with Mr. Fletcher our wrestler. He was nice enough to not kill me, but this is definitely one of my areas of weakness. Hopefully in a real fight, I can deliver enough blows to the guy to get them off of my legs and prevent them from taking me down. This stuff never gets easier.

I practiced a little bit after class, but I tweaked my back during our ground work, so I only practiced for another 10-15 minutes, but it was all I could do.

Friday workout

I was working with Shihan to get ready to stripe test for katas. I’ve got quite a few techniques that I need to work on before I’m ready to test. I’ll have a chance to practice Wednesday evening after class and again this coming Friday.

Practicing with Steve

Worked on weapons primarily today – bo, sai, sickles, and nunchaku.

Earlier in the day, my left knee starting acting up…it’s been fine for a couple of months, but now it’s bugging me – grrrrr.
